Fun stuff about movies.

Ep 14 — Like an Ent on Cocaine

This week we've got movies from an actress who hates movies, an actor who can't show emotion (don't hold Avatar against him), and someone who may or may not be a tough guy. We also have a bit of a blow up about a musical from the past, Moulin Rouge.

Our Picks for January 27, 2012
Brad: We Need to Talk About Kevin
Jason: Man on a Ledge

The Talk Show #72: H.R. Fluffypuff - LOTR Movie Fans

This week, John Gruber and Dan Benjamin wonder about girl hobbits, updating HR FluffyPuff to Ice Cream Sandwich, transforming tablets, RIM and Baghdad Bob, all the Kindle Fires under Christmas Trees, John’s driving record, and John makes someone a millionaire with whiteout diamonds.

From the show, John Gruber:

They're not movie fans. It's like they're...it's like people who don't like movies are the people who like the Lord of the Rings Movies. Like, I'll bet if you got, like, a list of the, uh, favorite ten movies you've ever seen from people who would include the Lord of the Rings movies on them, I bet there wouldn't be a single, not a single Kubrick, Scorcese, Orson Welles on the entire list.

Not true of this movie fan.

GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO review - Blind Film Critic (no spoilers) - YouTube

Tune in next week to hear what Brad and Jason thought of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.

I'll tell you why movie revenue is dropping... :: rogerebert.com :: News & comment

The message I get is that Americans love the movies as much as ever. It's the theaters that are losing their charm. Proof: theaters thrive that police their audiences, show a variety of titles and emphasize value-added features. The rest of the industry can't depend forever on blockbusters to bail it out.

Amen.

Thanks, Justin!
